'At this rate': Paul Merson makes blunt West Ham prediction

Paul Merson has fired a warning at West Ham by suggesting that we could end up finishing as low as eighth in the Premier League table this season.

The Hammers made a fine start to our Premier League campaign and we were sitting in third spot just before there last international break in November.

Since league action has resumed though, we have really struggled, taking just five points from six games.

David Moyes’s men are now sitting in fifth spot in the table. On face value, that’s still impressive. Upon closer inspection, however, there are genuine reasons to be concerned.

West Ham are just three points clear of eighth placed Wolves. We need to get our season back on track as soon as possible.

Paul Merson fires warning at West Ham

The Hammers absolutely must get our season back on track with a win against Southampton at the London Stadium tomorrow afternoon.

Merson shared how much West Ham need to beat the Saints, when writing his regular column for Sportskeeda:

“West Ham need to win this game. They were disappointing against Arsenal last week and need to start winning Premier League matches again. They’ve made a positive start to the season under Moyes but seem to have hit a rough patch this month. West Ham could find themselves in seventh or eighth at this rate. They’ve crashed out of the Cup as well and will have to do without Antonio for the rest of the year. They need to stay in and around sixth place, and a short burst could see them nick a top-four place.”

Merson is spot on here.

The Hammers absolutely must stop the rot, and fast.

Our next three Premier League games are Southampton at home, Watford away and Crystal Palace away.

Moyes will be keen to win all three obviously and West Ham shouldn’t be happy with anything less than seven points from those matches.

It’s time to get back on track.
