Hammers boss David Moyes will surely be keen to bolster his central defensive ranks at the London Stadium this summer.
Angelo Ogbonna has been great this season, but he has just turned 32. Meanwhile, Winston Reid and Issa Diop face uncertain futures in east London.
According to an exclusive report from TEAMtalk, West Ham boss Moyes wants to solve that issue by signing Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren.
And 90 Min claims that Jurgen Klopp is ready to let the Croatian leave Anfield.
Stats
In 161 Premier League appearances for Liverpool and Southampton, the 57-capped Croatia international has racked up 243 tackles, with an incredibly impressive success rate of 71% (premierleague.com).
He has also recorded 273 interceptions, 1,009 clearances and 713 ball recoveries. Lovren has won 920 out his 1,426 individual duals and 582 of his 871 aerial battles (premierleague.com).
The Croatian, who earns £100,000 per week (Spotrac) is a proper defender. And West Ham could do a lot worse.
But it seems as though he could now be staying on Merseyside.
The 30-year-old has suggested that he is willing to stay at Liverpool and fight for his place, when speaking to Sky Sports:
“It has been a test for me. But in these moments, I think you should stick with the team even more, to show your quality even if you are not on the pitch with the first XI. The next day in training, you should give everything. Of course, it’s not the happiest moment when I see myself on the bench, but it’s the decision of the manager. I respect it and I am always the guy who will work 200 per cent behind closed doors. It’s just part of football. If 20 players could play, it would be nice, but there are only 11 places. Whoever is in the best shape will play and that’s fair enough.”
And judging by those comments, West Ham face a hard task prising Lovren away from Liverpool at the end of the season.
