Fabian Balbuena’s agent Augusto Paraja has told ESPN Brazil that the West Ham ace is keen to remain at the London Stadium beyond the end of his current contract.
The Paraguayan joined the Hammers from Corinthians in the summer of 2018 for around £4 million (The Sun).
Balbuena is out of contract in the summer, however.
The 29-year-old really struggled last season and began this term in similar fashion.
That was until he filled in for Issa Diop in September after the Frenchman tested positive for Covid-19.
Balbuena hasn’t looked back since. He has been absolutely rock solid at the heart of David Moyes’ defence. And it would be a real surprise if the 29-year-old wasn’t offered a new deal.
The Paraguay international’s agent Augusto Paraja has told ESPN Brazil that his client very much wants to stay at West Ham beyond the summer of 2021:
“He is one of the captains of the team, he’s starting and wants to continue. I received many calls from journalists asking about Flamengo, but there’s no possibility of him returning to South America. He wants to continue in England, there’s no concern because of that.”
The £4 million Manuel Pellegrini signing was recently linked with a move away from the London Stadium.
Brazilian football journalist Jorge Nicola claimed that Flamengo were interested in signing the West Ham centre-back. It appears as though there is no chance of that happening now, however.
Balbuena is a really useful asset to West Ham when he’s on form. And there is no reason why the Hammers hierarchy shouldn’t offer him a new two or three-year contract.
Much will depend on how the 29-year-old finishes the season. As things stand, however, the former Corinthians ace seems to be in a very strong position.
And there won’t be many West Ham fans who would begrudge him being offered a new deal in the summer.
