Aaron Cresswell makes admission about West Ham teammate Manuel Lanzini

Aaron Cresswell admitted that ‘quality’ player Manuel Lanzini hasn’t been his best of late, when speaking to West Ham United’s official website.

Lanzini joined West Ham on loan in the summer of 2015, before making his move to east London a permanent one the following summer for around £9 million (Daily Mail).

He really impressed during his first few seasons with the Hammers.

But the mercurial 27-year-old has endured a really tough time over the past two years.

Lanzini suffered an injury in the build-up to the World Cup in Russia in 2018. And he quite simply has not been the same player since.

The South American scored a wonder goal away at Tottenham on Sunday, however, to earn a huge point for West Ham. And perhaps that is just what he needs to help kick on and rediscover the form that he was showing on a regular basis two seasons ago.

Aaron Cresswell labelled Lanzini as a quality player, when speaking to WHUFC.com, but admitted that the 27-year-old hasn’t been at his best recently:

“Manu has got that quality. Obviously he had a bad injury a couple of years ago and this season probably hasn’t gone the way he wanted so far. He’s stuck at it and I couldn’t be more proud of him.”

Let’s hope that the old Lanzini is back. Because on his day, he is a truly great player. And he might just have an important role to play for West Ham this season.

At the very least, Sunday’s goal will have given him a huge boost of confidence. Lanzini clearly has the quality. And hopefully Sunday’s wonder strike wasn’t just a flash in the pan.
