£22m double deal already looks like sensational business

West Ham fans have given David Sullivan and David Gold plenty of stick over the last few years.

But the Hammers have made two exceptional signings recently. And the co-owners deserve huge credit for them.

David Moyes brought Tomas Soucek to the London Stadium from Slavia Prague on a £17 million permanent deal in July (Football.London), after the Czech ace impressed whilst on loan.

The Scot then followed that up by bringing the 25-year-old’s former teammate Vladimir Coufal to West Ham for just £5 million (Sky Sports).

And the Czech duo have really impressed. In fact, both players have entirely transformed the way in which West Ham play.

Not bad for £22 million eh?

Soucek has racked up three goals in 19 Premier League games for the Hammers so far (Transfermarkt).

In those outings, the Czech ace has made 40 tackles, 29 interceptions, 47 clearances, 77 ball recoveries. He has won 161 out of 280 individual duels and 107 of 173 aerial battles (premierleague.com).

Coufal, meanwhile, has played just three Premier League games for West Ham. But he has already managed to rack up 12 tackles, one block, five interceptions, seven clearances and 14 ball recoveries. The 28-year-old has also won 20 out of 31 individual duels and five out of six aerial battles (premierleague.com).

Those numbers from both players really are very impressive. They have taken to the Premier League like ducks to water.

Soucek and Coufal are both tenacious, hard as nails and have cult hero written all over them.

David Moyes wants to implement a system and a culture where we are incredibly hard to beat and resilient.

And bringing Soucek and Coufal to West Ham will undoubtedly end up being a key factor behind our ability to achieve exactly that.
