£100k per week West Ham star Manuel Lanzini has spoken out on his lack of game time after David Moyes’ £170m summer splurge.

Lanzini had been enjoying something of a West Ham renaissance under Moyes over the last couple of seasons.

Used in a variety of roles, including a deeper midfield position, Lanzini’s brilliant technical skills and ability to pass through the lines has been crucial to the rise of the Hammers.

Lanzini signed a new four-year deal on £100k per week with West Ham back in 2019 (Daily Mail, Football Insider).

But there has been persistent speculation that Lanzini could be set for a return to his former club River Plate over the last few transfer windows, including in the summer (Football Insider).

West Ham’s little jewel has remained and is now in the last season of his deal. Unless he is offered a new deal from January he will be able to speak to foreign clubs over a pre-contract agreement for a free transfer in the summer.

For now, though, Lanzini remains fully focused on West Ham despite becoming something of a bit-part player this term.

The Argentine has played just 94 minutes of West Ham’s Premier League matches so far this season spread across three defeats.

But he has been a starter for Moyes in the club’s Europa Conference League matches so far.

Now £100k per week West Ham star Lanzini has spoken out on his lack of game time after Moyes’ £170m summer splurge.

Unsurprisingly the 29-year-old has a very mature take on the situation.

While Lanzini admits he would like to be playing more, he accepts that competition is key and has praised the club for signing top players in the summer.

“Of course, I want to play every game, but I know the competition [for places] is strong and I need to be ready for that moment when I get the opportunity to play,” Lanzini told whufc.com ahead of the game against Anderlecht which could seal West Ham’s place in the last 16.

“Now, I play in every game in the Conference League and I think we are playing well…

“I think the club has done very well to bring in players who can help do this for us and we expect big things.”

What a great attitude. And we’d expect nothing less from a player who has served the club well and provided some memorable moments for Hammers fans over the years.

Let’s hope there are a few more to come before he departs.
