A shocking loss statistic proves West Ham United are in grave relegation danger whatever David Moyes may say to the contrary.

It was like Groundhog Day for West Ham fans as the Premier League resumed on Boxing Day evening with defeat to Arsenal.

It was West Ham’s fourth loss in a row either side of the World Cup break and leaves Moyes’ side just two points off the bottom of the table.

When West Ham went into the pause for Qatar it was to increasing noise around Moyes’ job and a fair few jeers from the club’s fans.

The Scot once again called for patience after the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal, insisting he and his team are looking up rather than down.

Given the seven-week break and the staggered nature of the games over this restart, an extremely worrying fact may have escaped the attention of supporters.

A shocking loss statistic proves West Ham are in grave relegation danger whatever Moyes may say.

Because West Ham have lost the joint most games in the entire Premier League so far this season.

The Hammers have now lost 10 of their 15 matches with only rock bottom Southampton having lost the same number.

If that does not give the players or club’s owners a wake-up call, nothing will.

To put the woeful stat into perspective, West Ham only lost 11 matches in the whole of the 2020-21 campaign on their way to a sixth place finish. And they lost just 14 last season when finishing seventh.

Obviously Moyes will be hoping to turn things around quickly and stem the flow of losses.

But at this rate West Ham are on course to rack up more than 20 defeats this season. When West Ham were last relegated in the 2010-11 campaign they lost 19 matches.

A growing number of supporters believe Moyes is on his last legs at West Ham. But this is no knee-jerk reaction from Hammers fans.

A couple of memorable European nights aside, West Ham’s poor form stretches back a full year with just 13 wins in their last 43 Premier League games.

Whatever way you dress it up that is relegation form.
