Paul Merson has doubled down on what he thinks about David Moyes as he delivers ‘difficult’ West Ham verdict.

West Ham and Moyes may have had one eye on this Sunday’s Premier League match against Aston Villa when they took on Larnaca in Europe on Thursday night.

But now full focus turns to what is a huge match against Villa at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

West Ham know they need to pick up at least five wins from their remaining 13 league games to have a chance of staying up.

The Hammers have a good recent record against Aston Villa. But Unai Emery’s side go into the match off the back of consecutive league wins and without having had a 5,000 mile round trip to Cyprus a few days prior like West Ham.

Aston Villa are a decent outfit. But this is a game – particularly being at home – the Hammers simply must be looking to win.

The match comes with Moyes under pressure after a 4-0 defeat to Brighton left West Ham just one point off the relegation zone.

Last month former Aston Villa star turned pundit Merson claimed West Ham will not be relegated as long as they keep Moyes as manager.

Now Merson has doubled down on what he thinks about Moyes as he delivers a ‘difficult’ West Ham verdict.

Speaking on Sportskeeda, Merson says the West Ham vs Aston Villa clash is a “pundit’s nightmare” as it is so difficult to predict what to expect from either side.

But Merson is predicting West Ham to win 2-1 and – after the latest round of speculation on Moyes’ future – once again says the Hammers must keep the Scot in charge.

“This is going to be a great contest,” Merson told Sportskeeda.

“West Ham United beat Nottingham Forest 4-0 a couple of weeks ago. I think that result helped the Hammers paper over the cracks. In that game, all four of their goals came after the 70th minute. They then went and got beaten 4-0 by Brighton & Hove Albion.

“This is a massive game for David Moyes and co. West Ham need to keep Moyes in charge.

“This is a hard game to call. I’d call this a pundit’s nightmare. Either team could win the game 2-1 and you wouldn’t be shocked.”
