Gareth Southgate is coming under intense pressure for the first time, much like Moyes at West Ham.
The Hammers have lost five of their opening seven Premier League games this season.
But the malaise can be charted back more than 10 months with West Ham having a points per game ratio that sits in the bottom three of the division over that period.
Under-performance is not the only parallel between England and West Ham right now.
The team selection and tactics of both Southgate and Moyes for England and West Ham has come under increasing scrutiny.
Many observers – particularly among Hammers fans – have made comparisons between Southgate and Moyes.
Those critics feel the managers share a risk averse, defensive approach to matches.
And Southgate and Moyes have also been criticised over team selection and sticking with their out of form favourites.
West Ham striker Michail Antonio recently opened a can of worms when he lifted the lid on Moyes’s tactics – to stay in games and only push for the win late on.
Having spent over £170m on a higher calibre of player in the summer, West Ham fans want to see a more adventurous, attacking style. Many feel that is when the Hammers are at their best.
Southgate, with a supposed golden generation of talent at his disposal, is accused of being similarly negative.
Both West Ham and England have been criticised of only coming to life when they are behind in a game.
Rice said it was becoming a problem for the Hammers who only showed any real attacking intent or quality after they had conceded in the defeat to Everton last time out.

Lineker’s assessment will strike a chord with West Ham fans in particular as his Twitter post after the game could have been copied and pasted to describe the Hammers.
“When England are forced into playing to their strengths (attacking), they look a good side,” Lineker said.
“When they play to cover their weaknesses (defending), they look a poor side.”
West Ham fans will want to see that lessons have been learned by Moyes from the first portion of the season when they kick off a jam-packed and crucial October against Wolves on Saturday.
