A prominent football finance expert has lifted the lid on West Ham’s wages and there is plenty of room for manoeuvre.
The measure of the job being done by David Moyes at West Ham is perhaps best highlighted by the club’s league position compared to its wages outlay.
Because West Ham massively punched above their weight when it comes to league performance and total wages.
UEFA MUST STOP! NEW CHAMPIONS LEAGUE COULD RUIN FOOTBALL
Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has published a table showing Premier League position versus wage position.
West Ham finished seventh last season. And they could – and probably should – have matched the sixth place finish of the season before.
Now football finance expert Maguire has lifted the lid on West Ham’s wages and there is plenty of room for manoeuvre.
Football finance expert lifts lid on West Ham wages and there is plenty of room for manoeuvre
Because the Hammers are all the way down in 12th place in the Premier League when it comes to wages.
West Ham’s wages total £129m in the chart, below the likes of Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Wolves, Everton and Leicester.
Unsurprisingly, Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man United Chelsea and Man City make up the top six with mega rich City top of the pile with a £355m wage bill.
West Ham’s paltry wage bill by comparison means there should be plenty of room for manoeuvre this summer.
And that is BEFORE factoring in the raft of departures with big earner Andriy Yarmolenko off the books as well as Mark Noble and Ryan Fredericks while Alex Kral will be departing too.
As a result there is absolutely no excuse for the board not to invest in top players.
West Ham’s owners must be revelling in the over-performance of their players when it comes to wages and league position.
It is a big indication of just how small and shallow Moyes’s squad is.
West Ham must perform a big rebuild this summer and need at least six or seven quality players.
That won’t come cheap. But the chart published by football finance expert Maguire at least proves there is plenty of room for manoeuvre on the West Ham wage bill.
With Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky on board and a new TV deal which guarantees West Ham an extra £500m over the next three years, West Ham should be able to compete with the top clubs when it comes to salaries.
