Baffling David Moyes decision proves West Ham boss hasn’t changed

West Ham were all over Manchester United in the first-half last night. David Moyes would have been delighted with his side’s performance.

We should have gone into the half-time break at least 2-0 up and probably should have been 3-0 up.

The Hammers began the second-half in pretty much the same fashion. West Ham blew another gilt edge chance early on in the second 45.

Then Manchester United reached another gear with Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood running riot at the London Stadium.

Paul Pogba equalised on 65 minutes before Greenwood put the visitors 2-1 up just three minutes later.

The West Ham fans were crying out for Moyes to mix things up to get us back in the game, and he didn’t disappoint. But there was a problem.

The Scot brought on Said Benrahma and Manuel Lanzini after 75 minutes. Nothing wrong with that. He then took off Pablo Fornals and again…no problem with that.

Jarrod Bowen’s number was then raised and one of our real game changing match winners was taken off.

Sure, the 23-year-old wasn’t at his best in the second-half. His performance levels dropped from what he produced in the first 45 minutes.

The thing that Moyes missed, however, is that Bowen can create something out of nothing. Regardless of how he is playing.

Surely the call should have been to take off Aaron Cresswell and switch to a 4-3-3- or 4-2-3-1. Or perhaps Vladimir Coufal should have been taken off.

In fact, you could probably name eight players who should have come off before Bowen.

The decision by Moyes was truly baffling. And it just proves that the 57-year-old Scot hasn’t changed.

We’re not being too critical of him here. He has undoubtedly improved us as a team.

But as we keep saying here at Hammers News, he is NOT the man to take this football club to the next level.

Moyes will keep us up season in, season out. But his negative coaching and poor in game management will always hold us back.

And Moyes taking off Jarrod Bowen when we were chasing the game last night exemplified that fact.
