According to a report from Calcio Mercato, West Ham are willing to pay £18 million to sign Roma midfielder Amadou Diawara in January.
Forza Roma claimed last week that the Hammers are leading the race to sign the 23-year-old ball-winning midfielder.
David Moyes will undoubtedly be keen to bolster his ranks in the middle of the park at the London Stadium in January.
The Scot needs to provide more competition and cover for Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek.
That particular squad deficiency must be addressed either in January or next summer.
With that in mind, Roma star Amadou Diawara would be the ideal January addition for West Ham.
And Calcio Mercato claims that the Hammers are prepared to pay £18 million to bring the Guinea international to east London from the Italian capital.
Could be a great addition for the Hammers
Diawara, who earns £55k-a-week according to Sportekz, is an incredibly energetic midfielder. The Roma ace has the ability to cover vast amounts of ground. And that makes him ideally suited to David Moyes’s hard-working philosophy.
In 22 league games for the Serie A outfit last season, the 23-year-old averaged 1.8 tackles and 1.5 interceptions per game. He also averaged 45.4 passes per match with a massively impressive completion rate of 88.9 % (Who Scored).
Diawara, Rice and Soucek would represent especially strong midfield options for Moyes to choose from.
If West Ham manage to sign Diawara for just £18 million it would be truly brilliant business. Let’s just hope that the Hammers owners manage to get this one over the line in January with minimum fuss.
