West Ham’s under-23s cemented their place in second spot in the Premier League 2 table this season. Unfortunately we can’t catch league leaders Manchester City but at the same time, we are out of reach for third place Arsenal.

On the whole, it has been a very encouraging campaign for the U-23s and Mark Robson seems to have done an impressive job since taking over from Dmitri Halajko midway through the season.

The Hammers U-23s were in fine form away from home last night.

Robson’s side trailed 2-0 early on but Sonny Perkins scored either side of half-time to level the scores.

Everton took the lead again before Emmanuel Longelo and Armstrong Okoflex both scored to make it 4-3 to West Ham. And that’s how the game finished.

Sonny Perkins was a standout performer for West Ham under-23s once again. What an incredibly talented young player we have on our hands.

Perkins now has 14 goals and two assists in 26 games for West Ham’s youth teams this season (Transfermarkt).

The 18-year-old seems to have everything needed to succeed at the very highest level. He will need to bulk out before he’s ready to play Premier League football of course, but that should come naturally in the next couple of years.

Perkins could well be the next player to follow in the footsteps of Declan Rice and Ben Johnson in making the jump up from the academy to the senior team.

His performance for West Ham under-23s against Everton last night further underlined his incredible ability.
