UEFA has announced the unusual UEL double draw details ahead of West Ham’s crunch Europa League last 16 tie against Sevilla.

West Ham are gearing up for their biggest match in 16 years when David Moyes’s side welcome Sevilla to the London Stadium on Thursday night.

West Ham must turn around a narrow 1-0 deficit in the huge Europa League last 16 second leg clash.

West Ham did not hit the heights Hammers fans know they are capable of in the first leg over in Spain.

But Moyes’s boys certainly did not disgrace themselves either and 1-0 was by no means a disastrous result.

It is all to play for in an intriguing tie in east London on Thursday night.

The reward for the victor will be a place in the quarter-finals.

If West Ham can make the last eight they will be hard pressed to draw a more difficult team than Sevilla.

Nobody at West Ham will be getting ahead of themselves with the two-legged affair finely poised.

But fans will understandably be excited at the prospect of the next round.

What many supporters may not know is that should West Ham make it through they will learn their quarter-final opponents and the team they could face in the SEMI-FINALS in the same draw.

UEFA has announced the UEL quarter-final and semi-final draw details ahead of the crunch West Ham tie against Sevilla and other Europa second legs.

It is an unusual format. Especially to us West Ham fans who may not have taken much notice of the draw for this stage of the competition in previous years.

But this is how UEFA operates its last eight draw process as it would be somewhat pointless having lots of officials and football club representatives attend a separate draw for the semi-finals which would effectively be over after the first two balls are pulled out.

As reported by Hammers News last week, six of West Ham’s potential Europa League quarter-final opponents became much clearer after the first legs.

And their next two opponents will be made very clear should the Hammers advance because the Europa League quarter-final and semi-final draw takes place together.

West Ham fans won’t have long to wait if they do make it through. Because the draw takes place on Friday morning (March 18th).

“The 2021/22 UEFA Europa League quarter-final and semi-final draws take place on Friday 18 March at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland. The live stream will appear here,” UEFA has announced on its Europa League website.

“There will be a free draw for the quarter-finals, with ties numbered 1–4 for the semi-final draw that follows. A draw will also be made to determine the ‘home’ side in the final for administrative reasons.

“There are no seedings or country protection. Any restrictions will be announced ahead of the draw.”

Just imagine it West Ham fans. By Friday lunchtime we could know which teams stand in the way of a dream Europa League final back in Seville come what May.

The dates for the quarter-final and semi-final ties have already been set as below:

Quarter-final first legs: 7 April
Quarter-final second legs: 14 April
Semi-final first legs: 28 April
Semi-final second legs: 5 May
