French journalist calls Lyon's bluff at training over West Ham injury doubts and says they will all play

A French journalist has called Lyon’s bluff over their West Ham injury doubts and says they will all play against the Hammers.

West Ham face Lyon in France on Thursday night for their big Europa League quarter-final second leg clash.

The last eight tie is delicately balanced at 1-1 after a first leg in which West Ham played with 10 men for the entirety of the second half.

West Ham or Lyon know they will face either Eintracht Frankfurt or Barcelona – who also drew 1-1 last week – in the semi-final.

West Ham have injury and suspension issues with Kurt Zouma and Aaron Cresswell out of the game.

But David Moyes will be boosted by the availability of Manuel Lanzini who was banned for the first leg.

The Scot also looked set to be boosted by a quadruple Lyon blow ahead of the game as goalkeeper Anthony Lopes and midfield trio Tanguy Ndombele, Houssem Aouar and Thiago Mendes were rated as serious injury doubts.

The official Ligue 1 website even stated that Lyon are sweating on the fitness of key duo Ndombele and Aouar for West Ham while goalkeeper Lopes would definitely be out after coming off in Lyon’s 1-1 draw against Strasbourg on Sunday.

Lyon boss Peter Bosz claimed in his pre-match press conference that the players were all still doubts (KUMB).

But now a French journalist has called Lyon’s bluff over the West Ham injury doubts while being interviewed pitchside as Bosz’s side trained.

Journalist Herve Penot told Sky Sports that the fact all the players said to be injury doubts for West Ham were involved in the session being played out behind him was proof it was all smoke and mirrors.

“I would be surprised if he’s (Ndombele) not in the team tomorrow because he’s here (nodding to the Spurs flop training behind him),” Penot told Sky Sports.

“You’ve (also) got Aouar, he’s here as well (behind me), Lopes is here and the fourth one was Thiago Mendes, he’s here as well.

“So it seems to be ok for the four guys, but you never know perhaps tomorrow morning they’re going to wake up with big problems, but I would be surprised if they weren’t playing (against West Ham).”

Penot goes on to say there is a sense in the Lyon team that they are ‘at least as good as West Ham if not even better’.

What a shame West Ham can’t field their strongest side tomorrow night.

But the club made its bed by not getting the players Moyes wanted in January. And now they must lay in it.

West Ham need to forget about Lyon and who is or isn’t available and focus on the fact the French side could not beat them despite having a man more for a total of 53 minutes in last week’s tussle.
