'Fantastic': Ben Johnson admits he was in awe of one player during West Ham United's defeat to Sevilla

Ben Johnson admitted that he learned a lot from Marcos Acuna after Sevilla beat West Ham 1-0 in the Europa League last night.

The Hammers should have scored a couple of goals at The Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium last night and we were unlucky to lose the match to be fair.

The fact that we are still well in this tie ahead of the second-leg at the London Stadium on Thursday night is a big plus, however.

Ben Johnson was one of the standout performers for West Ham last night against Sevilla.

The 22-year-old defied his tenders years with a really mature, well-rounded display against the La Liga side.

It seems like we have a truly exceptional player on our hands and hopefully he continues to improve with every week that passes. Playing in games like the one last night will be huge for Johnson’s development as a footballer.

And it seems as though he learned a lot in The Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium last night…

West Ham ace Ben Johnson lauds Sevilla ace Marcos Acuna

The 22-year-old didn’t really put a foot wrong against Sevilla last night.

It was a big statement performance fro the young right-back. Despite his fine display though, he was still in awe of one player in particular.

Johnson absolutely raved about Sevilla’s Acuna, when speaking exclusively to UEFA.com:

“He’s a very good player. I’ve learned a lot from him tonight – his composure, knowing his next pass and his technical ability is fantastic. Playing against him was a great experience.”

The 30-year-old came face to face with Johnson on numerous occasion last night.

Acuna was absolutely brilliant for the home side, getting up and down the left-hand flank for the entirety of the match.

The Argentina international is a very solid defender and is exceptional when he ventures into the final third.

He possesses unbelievable technique for a left-back as well. And that was obviously something that impressed Ben Johnson in particular.

Learning from players like Acuna will stand the 22-year-old West Ham starlet in great stead. Coming up against players like the South American ace will only be a good thing for Johnson and we expect him to improve drastically between now and the end of the season.
