It was expected West Ham were going to announce a deal to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United but there have been delays.

The deal for West Ham to make Aaron Wan-Bissaka their eighth summer signing is directly linked to Man United’s own transfer business.

Noussair Mazraoui has flown to Manchester to complete his move to Old Trafford as Wan-Bissaka’s replacement.

Wan-Bissaka had his West Ham medical yesterday after the Hammers finally agreed a deal with Man United following weeks of talks.

It was initially expected the Irons would announce the signing of the 26-year-old last night.

But the deal has been something of a protracted saga from the start and that theme continues.

Outlets and transfer ITKs have been tripping over one another trying to be the first to call Wan-Bissaka’s move as a done deal.

A £15m deal has reportedly been agreed for the right-back.

But the deal hit turbulence on Sunday night which delayed Wan-Bissaka’s West Ham medical to Monday.

Fans of West Ham and Man United received reassurances that the defender would still be unveiled as the east Londoners’ latest capture.

Especially when Fabrizio Romano posted the following message on X at 8pm last night.

“Aaron Wan-Bissaka has signed his new West Ham contract right now with Tim Steidten!” Romano said.

“Deal sealed,” along with a padlock emoji.

But there has been a worrying update on a deal for Man United star Wan-Bissaka as Romano deletes the post.

Fabrizio Romano deletes ‘deal sealed’ post

David Sullivan confidant Sean Whetstone has taken to X to deliver his own update.

Whetstone says Romano jumped the gun and the contract had not been signed.

When some fans suggested they believed Romano over Whetstone, the top level Hammers source pointed to the fact the Italian transfer reporter has now deleted the ‘deal sealed’ post.

“Please don’t shoot the messenger but club sources say AWB has not quite signed his contract yet,” Whetstone said.

“Got tons of grief last night for going against him (Romano) in giving a different update.

“Where is that tweet now?”

Whetstone went into fine detail in another post overnight explaining what needs to be in place for the deal between West Ham, Man United and the player to be officially signed off.

“To complete a transfer multiple documents need to be completed and submitted to the Premier League,” Whetstone said.

“In addition to the players new contract there a legal transfer agreement between the buying selling and buying club, the old player contract also needs to be terminated. Most transfer agreements require a transfer of funds of the first instalment to be sent to the selling club to be valid, in the case of AWB he is entitled to compensation payment from Manchester United which probably takes the form of another contract which will need to be signed.

“Once all documentation is filed with the Premier League they check them against regulations and can ask for clarifications or more information before confirming approval. Only when all of this is complete is the registration transferred from one club to another and the player registered to play for the new club.”

Despite the worrying delays, Wan-Bissaka is still expected to sign for West Ham today with Mazraoui being announced by Man United in due course too.

An ESPN pundit believes West Ham are getting a far better deal than Man United.

Although football finance expert Kieran Maguire has explained how Manchester United are making a profit on Wan-Bissaka’s move to West Ham.

That’s despite spending £50m on signing him from Palace back in 2019.
