Worrying development for David Moyes over January striker signing he has been lining up for West Ham

There has been a worrying development for David Moyes over a striker signing he has been lining up for West Ham United in January.

Moyes appears to have finally settled on a striker he wants to sign as back-up for Michail Antonio.

According to a recent report from The Sun that man is Clermont striker Mohamed Bayo.

Moyes recently admitted that his six month search for a striker to stand in for Antonio at West Ham proved fruitless in the summer (Independent).

Moyes finally settled on striker he wants to bring to West Ham

And West Ham’s lack of proper back-up is a big concern for fans.

West Ham were linked with Bayo – who scored 22 goals as he helped Clermont get promoted to Ligue 1 last season – during the summer window.

And The Sun claims Moyes is still interested and is considering bringing the Guinea international in during the January window – although his involvement in the African Nations would mean he may not be available until February.

The Sun’s report claims West Ham could get the 23-year-old for £10 million.

Worrying development for Moyes over striker signing he has lined up for January

The 6ft 1in powerhouse has taken to Ligue 1 like a duck to water, scoring five goals and laying on two assists in his first seven games.

So it is easy to see why Moyes wants to bring Bayo to West Ham.

The only problem is, now Prem rivals Brighton do too according to The Sun.

And given that Bayo will likely be the number one striker at the AMEX it may sway any decision he has to make.

Brighton join West Ham in race to sign powerful striker Bayo and it’s easy to see why

The Sun now claims Brighton have joined the race for Bayo, which was set to be between West Ham and Bordeaux.

Bayo has a superb average match rating of 7.3/10 (WhoScored.com).

He is described as a clinical finisher and has the pace and power that is needed to succeed in the Premier League.

Bayo would have no trouble settling in at West Ham given the club’s growing French and French speaking contingent comprised of Alphonse Areola, Issa Diop, Kurt Zouma, Arthur Masuaku and Said Benrahma.

Take a look at some highlights showing what Bayo would bring to the table if he came to West Ham.
