A woeful situation is unfolding as West Ham United offer Aston Villa a top prospect in a new Jhon Duran deal.
West Ham’s talks with Aston Villa for striker Jhon Duran have taken an unexpected turn.
Hammers fans have been enthused by the fact West Ham are trying to sign a young up-and-coming talent like Duran.
But now it seems they might lose one of their own as a direct result.
West Ham and Aston Villa have been locked in talks over Duran for weeks.
The Hammers are reluctant to pay Villa’s £35-40m asking price for Duran.
West Ham refusing to meet Villa’s situation with cash offer
West Ham’s hierarchy feel it is too much money for a 20-year-old who is largely unproven at the top level.
With alternative targets dropping like flies, though, the pressure is building on West Ham to make a deal with Aston Villa, who signed Duran from Chicago Fire for £15m in January 2023.
Reports have abound of late that West Ham and Villa had found a compromise.
And Duran has now spoken out, saying he hopes ‘something concrete happens’ amid the London Stadium links.
Now a woeful situation has emerged which could see West Ham lose one of their most promising young players of recent years.

Woeful situation as West Ham offer Villa top prospect
The Athletic have confirmed West Ham have now made a £30million bid for Villa star Duran which also includes teenage midfielder Lewis Orford.
That news will fill West Ham fans with anger.
And that should tell Aston Villa everything they need to know about how good Orford could be.
Hammers supporters are already furious that Orford, who recently declared he feels he is good enough to play in West Ham’s first team, has not been offered a new contract he and his representatives deem satisfactory.
Without knowing the fine details of that situation, it is difficult to know whether West Ham are making the right call not offering him a deal.
Simply Or-ful deal for West Ham
And now they’re willing to offload a lifelong West Ham fan who joined the club at five-years-old just to save £4-5m in a deal for – by their own admission – an unproven forward.
The 18-year-old is an England youth international who was a key part of the club’s FA Youth Cup winning team last year.
Most observers may feel it is very much Aston Villa getting the better of this particular deal.
But, as yet, it has not been accepted.
This is a woeful situation for West Ham, a club which prides itself on its Academy of Football roots.
More fool Aston Villa if they don’t accept it.
