Winston Reid announced today that he would not be going on international duty so he doesn’t aggravate a ‘dead leg’ injury he sustained early on in our game against stoke.
Of course if this is the case the best place for him to be is at the club and resting his leg which leads to the questions is West Ham the best place for him anymore? The fans have really taken Reid into their hearts but everyone now has the feeling he’s starting to push his luck. For reasons that only appear to be about money from the outside but he apparently it’s also because he wants to be a bigger club, he won’t commit his future.
When the fans first heard about the contract issue the majority were very annoyed, not just because the club treated him well but of course he is our best Centre Back at this current time. That’s not to say our defence would fall apart without him, last season he was injured for a long period of time and we still managed to have a good defensive record and I don’t see why that should change if he leaves, which is looking more and more likely.
Due to his current form Reid is being partnered by James Collins who has been outstanding but I can’t help feel for James Tomkins because he is a top class defender and I don’t think he deserves to be sitting on the bench at all.
If Reid leaves I feel Tomkins would do a more than good job in the heart of our defence week in week out but the club need to prepare for Reid to leave the club and find a top class replacement so the change doesn’t make the team weaker at the back.
