So it appears that West Ham United winger is set to reject the clubs new contract offer in order to move to Championship side, Bolton Wanderers.
A lot of supporters, including me, are wondering why another promising star has walked away from the club. Did we offer him a contract and he turned it down? Have we not offered him a contract because Sam Allardyce doesn’t think he is good enough? Or is Hall fed up with waiting for a chance in the first team?
Hall spent the majority of last season on loan at Birmingham City, where he made a pretty good impression along with fellow Hammer, Ravel Morrison. But did he set the world alight there? Well, honestly, no he didn’t. He was good, but he was hardly a permanent fixture in the Brum starting 11 was he?
The likes of Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Jermaine Defoe, Glen Johnson, Joe Cole and Michael Carrick all went on loan, and not surprisingly, it was probably that part of their career that was the most vital for their progression. So I’m not sure why the youngsters in the game feel they have a god given right to be in the first team when they still know nothing.
One final point, if Robert Hall was as good as everyone says he is, then why has he not been involved in the England Under 21’s and Under 20’s this summer? Maybe now I’ve taken my claret and blue tinted specs off, do I realise that if you are good enough, you will play for the first team.
