Missing out on Wilfried Bony has been met by great disappointment by many West Ham fans. He has been touted as the next Didier Drogba and after scoring 31 goals last season for Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem has been labled a prolific striker who can fire Swansea up the league table. I for one do not see it like this. I see it as a big risk for the Swans to take. £12 million on a striker who has never proven himself in this country is not something which I see as a good deal. The Dutch league is a massive step down from the English Premier League something which players like Bryan Ruiz and Dirk Kuyt have proven. They were both major stars in the Eredivisie and were two of the most prolific in the league. Although Dirk Kuyt scored a decent amount of goals in his time at Liverpool and always gave 100% in every game he played, he never reached the prolific heights he did while playing for Feyenoord. Bryan Ruiz is an even bigger example of why buying from the Dutch League is a massive risk. He has gone from scoring 35 goals in 65 games for FC Twente to scoring 7 in 56 games for Fulham! Who’s to say that Bony will not be exactly the same?
Also, if Bony was definite Premier League quality as most of our fans have presumed, why did no top 4 side in the Premier League and no quality side in the world make an offer for him? Yes Chelsea scouted him but they soon decided that he wasn’t EPL standard and didn’t continue with their enquiries.
Many people complained when we spent £15 million on Andy Carroll who has got a lot more Premier League experience than Wilfried Bony, so why are so many of us angry at the board for not spending only £3 million less on a striker who many of us have never seen play except for propaganda clips on youtube in which all they show is his goals he has scored. What amazes me is the outrage that fans have shown with our interest in signing Duvan Zapata due to his lack of experience and said he was unproven yet they were delighted when we were linked with a player with exactly the same experience of England for double the price! Personally I really hope we do sign Zapata from Estudiantes and hopefully he can be an even bigger hit than Wilfried Bony will be for Swansea.
