Why West Ham should try and sell Ryan Fredericks in January

Ryan Fredericks joined West Ham on a free transfer in the summer of 2018.

The Hammers man seems to have all of the attributes needed to be a really successful attacking full-back in the Premier League.

But he just hasn’t produced the goods for West Ham thus far.

He was absolutely atrocious against Arsenal on Monday night. In fact, he has been rather poor all season. And the Hammers should consider moving him on in January.

The 26-year-old is still under contract until the summer of 2022, so West Ham could get a decent fee for him.

There are plenty of exciting young right-backs out there who would be real upgrades on Fredericks.

Lech Poznan’s Robert Gumny, Genk’s Joakim Mæhle, Real Betis’s Emerson and Norwich City’s Max Aarons are all potential options for the Hammers.

They are all younger, more exciting and arguably already better players than Fredericks.

The 26-year-old, who earns £50,000 per week according to Claret and Hugh, is starting to show why not many of the top clubs were in for him 18 months ago.

That is not to say that there wouldn’t be plenty of potential suitors for his signature if West Ham made him available.

Fredericks is ideally suited to a mid-table Premier League club, or he could even drop back down to the Championship.

And now might be the right time to move him on, before his reputation is damaged even further than it already has been.

This all might sound a little harsh, but if the Hammers want to be a big club, they had better start acting like one.

And moving Fredericks on would be a good place to start.
