West Ham fans could be forgiven for getting excited about Jesse Lingard 14 being unavailable as an option when a new Manchester United shirt is ordered in their club shop.

The 28-year-old was in sensational form for the Hammers during a loan spell at the London Stadium last season.

He racked up an incredible nine goals and four assists in just 16 Premier League games for West Ham.

Getting Lingard signed up on a permanent deal this summer will undoubtedly be one of David Moyes’s main priorities.

The Daily Star recently suggested that Lingard has been offered a new £130k-a-week deal to stay with his boyhood club.

Some Hammers fans began to get excited on Twitter yesterday, however, as it became clear that you were not able to order the name and number Lingard 14 when buying a new Man United shirt.

West Ham fans can’t get ahead of themselves regarding Jesse Lingard

The answer to the unavailability of the Lingard 14 shirt is simple.

It is impossible to order a Manchester United shirt with and player’s name on the back who left Old Trafford on loan last season.

Sure, Lingard 14 is unavailable. But so is Diogo Dalot and Andreas Pereira.

The 28-year-old still might join the Hammers, but the speculation regarding his shirt number has not bearing on his future.

Much will depend on how much Manchester United demand for Jesse. £30 million is way too much. £15-20 million would be a fair price for a player who is heading into the final year of his contract.
