Why this player could be the perfect signing for West Ham

Why Stewart Downing could be the perfect signing for us.
The reports of West Ham’s current interest in signing Liverpool winger, Stewart Downing, have been met with huge anger from many of us fans. I think we all need to look at the facts before coming to such a judgement that he isn’t good enough for our club.
Although he may have not quite impressed hugely in his time at Liverpool, if you look at his spell at Middlesbrough and Aston Villa then you have to admit that £6-8 million is a decent deal for us to sign him. Whilst playing for the two clubs he played for before joining Liverpool for a whopping £20 million he was widely regarded as one of the best wingers in the English game. I’m not saying that if we were to sign him that he would definitely be able to recreate the form he showed at Borough and Villa but if he got anywhere close to that then I believe he would definitely be worth a shot. Look at Andy Carroll for example. He was useless at Liverpool. He was taken there to score goals and create goals for other people. He did neither of those things yet we were all tremendously excited when we were linked with him and eventually managed to sign him! We brought him here and he was brilliant so why are we so reluctant to give Stewart Downing an opportunity to recapture his best form? With Andy up top ,and possibly Duvan Zapata, he will be given plenty of opportunities to use his best asset of swinging crosses into the box for the two of them to attack. After all, there is a reason he has been picked to play for the England national team 34 times!
We spent almost £11 million on Matt Jarvis so why are we so horrified at spending £8 million on Downing who has played 33 more times for England than Jarvis? I think we need to give Sam Allardyce a lot of credit for the players he has brought to this football club and have added a lot to our squad. I have full faith that if he signs Downing then he will be fully confident that he can make a big difference to West Ham United and if so, then I’m all for signing him!
