West Ham United have tabled Inter Milan a bid for the transfer of Valentin Carboni on deadline day, so here is everything you need to know about the playmaking prospect.

The Hammers have swooped late in the market to add a promising maestro to David Moyes’ team at London Stadium. But West Ham are not the only club interested in sealing a transfer for Carboni on deadline day. He is also away from Inter Milan on loan to AC Monza currently.

Monza agreed to a season-long loan transfer with Inter for Carboni last July which has led to a regular presence in Serie A. But Calciomercato reports that ACF Fiorentina and West Ham have both tabled offers worth €20m (£17m) in January. Although it will take €30m (£25.5m).

West Ham offer Inter Milan £17m for Valentin Carboni’s transfer

Inter Milan have slapped a price tag worth €10m (£8.5m) more than West Ham have so far offered on Carboni. He is under contract at San Siro until June 2028. While the playmaker’s agent also met the Nerazzurri recently to discuss a potential new deal, as well as the offers.

Carboni’s camp sought to explore the bid that West Ham made Inter Milan, plus Fiorentina’s interest in his transfer. But the Nerazzurri are reluctant to sell their academy graduate as the Serie A giants believe he could be the imaginative element currently missing from their side.

The maestro has shown promise during his performances with Monza, for whom he boasts two goals and three assists in 15 Serie A games. So, with West Ham advancing their interest in Carboni’s transfer, here is everything you need to know about the Inter Milan prospect…

Who is Valentin Carboni?

West Ham United transfer target Valentin Carboni is a graduate of Inter Milan’s academy but is currently on loan to AC Monza. The Argentine gem agreed to the temporary move last July for his first spell away from San Siro since joining the Nerazzurri’s academy back in 2020.

Carboni made his move to Europe with Catania’s academy in 2019. But he only spent a year with the Italian third-tier outfit before Inter Milan came calling. Carboni, initially, started his youth career in his native Argentina for the Buenos Aires province team Club Atletico Lanus.

Simone Inzaghi handed Carboni his first-team debut with Inter Milan during a Serie A loss to AS Roma in October 2022. He was 17 years and six months old when playing off their bench. Inzaghi also debuted him in a Champions League clash at Bayern Munich in November 2022.

Where and when was Valentin Carboni born?

Valentin Carboni was born in Buenos Aries, Argentina on March 5, 2005. But the playmaker also holds Italian citizenship and has represented the Azzurri at the Under-17 level. He had 11 appearances for Italy’s youth team from 2021 before also representing Argentina’s U20 side.

Former West Ham midfielder Javier Mascherano awarded Carboni his Argentina U20 debut in November 2021. The playmaker also scored on his debut for La Albiceleste’s youth team. While Lionel Scaloni also first included Carboni in a senior Argentina squad in March 2022.

What position does Valentin Carboni play?

Valentin Carboni has, to date, traditionally played in the position of an attacking midfielder throughout his fledgling career. But the playmaker is also capable of playing in a marginally more advanced role behind a centre-forward. He has also seldom featured from the wings.

Appearances from either flank have proven rare so far in Carboni’s raw career. But tacticians have relished the maestro’s ability through his favoured left foot to play from the right-hand side more often than the left. Yet his outings most commonly arrive in centralised positions.

How good is Valentin Carboni?

Valentin Carboni has shown potential throughout his fledging career to earn promotions to first-team levels for club and country. But he is yet to play on the senior international stage. Head coach Scaloni only included Carboni in his first squad to stop him from choosing Italy.

The Argentine FA feared losing Carboni to the Azzurri as he had emerged as one of the most important members of Inter Milan’s Primavera squad. Carboni has shown speed and power from a young age, as well as showing promising potential from set-pieces with his accuracy.

Carboni likes to play with the ball at his feet and involve his teammates in build-up play. He has further offered a threat in and around the penalty area at various age levels. While AC Monza manager Raffaele Palladino fully believes that Carboni is ready to prove his worth.

“Talent must be protected [as] he is a jewel,” Palladino said, via quotes by FC Inter 1908, in January. “Now, he is ready to prove everything he is worth. I’m not worried about the media exposure of him [as] he’s a very serious guy.”

Valentin Carboni’s stats at Inter Milan
