Its the exciting part of the season for all football fans, but as West Ham United supporters, I know we enjoy a new signing or two. Sam Allardyce has produced a fairly solid season, but there is definite room for improvement.
There are a number of players who I see moving on during the summer. Hopefully we can get our money back on Maiga and Diarra, and the likes of Vaz Te, Taylor, McCartney, Demel, Carlton Cole will all be sold too. Gary O’Neil has been an able deputy to Mark Noble, but is he good enough to keep? I’m not so sure.
Personally, I would have liked a new goalkeeper, but I think Big Sam is going to stick with Jaaskelainen. Full backs are a must, especially at left back. O’Brien has done a good job, but we need a full back who can attack as well as defend, someone to support Jarvis, freeing him up to do his job. We have been linked to Bedimo, Rat, Figueroa and Olsson, I would be happy with any of those.
Next, a centre forward. I hope Carroll signs on, but we must be looking at alternatives. There are plenty available, Bony, Remy and Rhodes – but they do not fit Big Sams ideal player. However, if we were to sign Carroll and a smaller player, hopefully we can mix up our play a little. Someone like Remy would be ideal for away games on the break. And a striker who takes his chances is a must if we are to move up the league.
We need some more creativity in the midfield, two of the Wigan boys would be good, Shaun Maloney and James McCarthur preferably. Maloney on the right would add flair, pace and balance to our team. Moving Joe Cole to Nolans position would be ideal too, but I can’t see Allardyce doing that. I like the thought that they are both British too.
I think that’s it, I’m not asking for too much am I? I think the players I have suggested are within our budget, and I hope that Allardyce makes positive signings rather than old has beens. We want players to fight it out, so if a player is out of form, we can replace them.
