There has recently been a lot of speculation linking West Ham with Salomon Kalou who currently plays for Lille in the French Ligue 1. Kalou scored 14 goals in 28 games for Lille last season, which is pretty impressive. He was always a good player at Chelsea and that’s what we need, someone with Premier League experience and of course a good player.
Kalou can play as a striker and a winger and this is exactly what West Ham need and David Gold and David Sullivan have both expressed this. Of course, West Ham’s main striker will be Andy Carroll but we need someone who may have to fill in if Carroll is injured and Kalou is capable of doing that. Admittedly he is not West Ham’s usual type of striker, a big man who can win a lot of aerial duals, but he can do a good job.
As mentioned earlier, Kalou can also play right wing, which will be very beneficial for West Ham. It is an area where West Ham weren’t very strong last season and Kalou could strengthen the right hand. If West Ham were to Kalou, he would mainly play down the right because Carroll is our main man up top. Kalou can score goals as well, which is always beneficial.
If Kalou was too chip in a few goals from the right hand side, then who knows where West Ham could end up next season. One thing I do like about Kalou is that he knows where the goal is. There was a number of occasions last season where West Ham created good chances but couldn’t finish them off. However, Kalou could change this.
He also has pace, which is something else that we lacked last season. Having the pace of Kalou and Jarvis up the wings sounds very promising and it would allow West Ham to break forward much quicker and possibly score more goals. West Ham are a side who try to play against teams on the break but we don’t have the pace to do this.
Overall, Kalou would be a great signing for West Ham and I really hope we attempt to sign him. He will be very cheap but will bring a bag load of Premier League experience to West Ham. I mean, he’s won a Premier League title.
