West Ham United are facing up to a summer battle regarding the future of Mateus Fernandes with reports from France claiming that Paris Saint-Germain are in ‘contact’ with the Portugal international already.

Reports have already indicated that Manchester United and Manchester City could rival each other for the signature of Nuno Espirito Santo’s star performer.

Now, via Foot Mercato, reigning European Champions Paris Saint-Germain have bulldozed their way into the frame.

West Ham United signed Mateus Fernandes in a £40 million deal from Southampton in August 2025. Less than 12 months later – in what can be considered a rather unwanted compliment towards their recruitment staff – the Hammers are now facing an assault from all sides as Europe’s elite clubs set their sights on the Sporting Lisbon academy graduate.

Foot Mercato say that ‘contact has already been established’ between Mateus Fernandes and Luis Campos; PSG’s Football Advisor.

Campos played a major role in the signings of Vitinha, Goncalo Ramos, Joao Neves and Nuno Mendes, with the Parc des Princes becoming the go-to destination for Portugal’s next generation of superstars. Fernandes made his Portugal debut during the March international break.

He is already fighting Vitinha, Neves and co for a starting spot in the national team, and could be facing a similar challenge at club level before long.

Foot Mercato do not provide any further information at this stage.

It remains to be seen how much PSG would be willing to pay, or whether Fernandes would willingly exchange a guaranteed starting spot at West Ham for a potential backseat role in the French capital.

On thing is for sure; Fernandes will be among the first names on Nuno’s team sheet again when the Hammers host David Moyes’ Everton on Saturday.
