In another Hammers News exclusive West Ham have issued a very interesting response when directly asked about a deal for Carlos Soler.

West Ham fans are unconvinced by the club’s central midfield options this season.

And it seems new Hammers head coach Julen Lopetegui is too.

Debate is raging as to whether James Ward-Prowse and Tomas Soucek offer enough in open play in the heart of West Ham’s midfield.

Argentinian defensive midfielder Guido Rodriguez has arrived on a free transfer.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp believes Rodriguez struggled badly on his Hammers debut in the defeat to Villa.

It is also being reported that Edson Alvarez won’t be back until October.

Last week Lopetegui insisted he still wants more arrivals at West Ham.

Hammers News exclusively revealed last week that West Ham could sign as many as three more players if the same number depart.

Lopetegui wants Soler at West Ham

PSG and Spain midfielder Carlos Soler is being mooted as signing number nine for West Ham.

Reports in Spain about the club’s interest in Soler have stated that Lopetegui has spoken to his compatriot about moving to West Ham.

There was great encouragement for the Hammers regarding Soler when PSG made his future clear at the weekend.

Speculation has intensified today after a report from Spain claimed Real Sociedad were shocked to learn Soler is signing for West Ham.

Since then L’Équipe has stated that that talks are taking place between the Hammers and PSG over the 27-year-old all-rounder.

It is claimed the Irons are now making advances to complete a deal, having returned to the negotiating table in recent days.

There have been claims that West Ham’s business is done for the summer as things stand.

West Ham’s very interesting response on Soler deal

But what are the club saying about the renewed speculation around a deal for PSG outcast?

West Ham have issued a very interesting response when directly asked about Soler.

Soler was a regular in the Spain squad under Lopetegui.

Now there is mixed news from West Ham regarding Soler.

Because the club has confirmed interest in the ex Valencia man.

But the key London Stadium source has revealed the club cannot afford to do a deal for Soler.

However, crucially – and perhaps most interestingly – the West Ham spokesman gave hope that could change.

Hammers News asked the West Ham spokesman whether the club’s spending so far this summer meant a move for Soler was a no-go.

Summer spend makes Spaniard a no-go but only for now

“At the moment,” was the short sweet response to Hammers News.

That suggests the situation will change as soon as the Hammers can offload one or two players.

And the fact talks have reportedly reignited in recent days suggests West Ham are confident of doing just that.

The club is keen to ship out the likes of Nayef Aguerd, Maxwel Cornet, Danny Ings and Kurt Zouma.

That would save around £1.5m a month in wages let alone any money raised from their exits.

If West Ham had no hope or intention of signing Soler, the Hammers source would simply have confirmed as much.

But they have left the door wide open by merely saying ‘at the moment’ when quizzed on Soler.

Now it’s clear what West Ham have to do – find takers for those not in Lopetegui’s plans as soon as possible.
