West Ham United’s hopes of landing defender Shane Duffy look bleak after his brother dropped a big hint he is set to join Celtic.
West Ham boss David Moyes and his Celtic counterpart Neil Lennon are desperate for defensive reinforcements.
And the Hammers and Hoops have made Duffy their main target.
West Ham and Celtic linked with Duffy
Ironically Celtic could have shot themselves in the foot by boosting cash-strapped West Ham’s transfer kitty to the tune of £5million by signing Albian Ajeti.
West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady has since held talks with Brighton outcast Duffy over a move – read full story.
But ExWHUemployee revealed the Hammers face competition from Celtic and a number of other Premier League clubs.
Duffy’s best friend Sean Roddy sparked hope West Ham could beat Celtic to land the Brighton outcast.
Hammers looked to have the edge
It came after Roddy replied to a Hammers fan on Instagram stating the Republic of Ireland centre-back “wanted” a switch to the London Stadium.
Duffy, who has been described as a boyhood Celtic fan, later gave the Bhoys hope when he chimed in on Twitter saying not to listen to his friend because “he doesn’t have a clue.”
Duffy has an emotional family pull to West Ham which some thought may help the east Londoners beat Celtic in the battle for his signature.
The committed centre back’s dad Brian, who sadly passed away aged just 53 in May, was a West Ham ‘fanatic’ (The Sun).
New twist as Duffy boards plane and brother drops Celtic hint
But there was a new twist this afternoon as Duffy boarded a plane reportedly bound for Scotland.
Duffy posted a picture on Instagram from aboard a plane simply saying: “Let’s go.”
And at the same time his brother posted a picture of the Celtic badge on his own Instagram account.
The posts have been reposted by Celtic Twitter account Everything Celtic.
“It looks like it’s finally happening,” the account said alongside the pictures.

If true it will be a big blow to Moyes’s plans to bolster his defence.
ExWHUemployee did reiterate at the weekend that West Ham do have other options.
Many Hammers supporters saw Duffy as exactly the kind of defender West Ham needed.
Fans saw him as the ideal replacement for James Collins.
But it seems the lure of the Scottish champions and their potential to make it 10 in a row this season may have proved too difficult to turn down.
