Moyes desperate to sign a new striker this summer
Michail Antonio’s latest hamstring scare has once again highlighted the lack of depth up front with no natural replacement.
One player being heavily linked with a summer move to West Ham is Brentford star Toney.
Eurosport recently claimed that Moyes is very keen to bring the prolific 25-year-old striker to the London Stadium.
The pacy and powerful striker has racked up 28 goals and nine assists in 36 league games so far (Transfermarkt).
Hammers heavily linked with Championship’s standout player Toney
He has unquestionably been the Championship’s standout player.
Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony recently claimed that West Ham co-owner David Sullivan told him he regrets not signing Toney last summer, when speaking on the Hard Truth Podcast.
One man who knows Toney and West Ham better than most is Reid.
The former Hammers captain is currently on loan at Brentford.
And he has talked the striker up amid interest from his parent club West Ham, saying he has all the attributes to be a success in the Premier League (The Athletic).
“Ivan is really humble and never complains or moans if he gets fouled,” Reid told The Athletic.
“He just gets on with it and, more often than not, he’ll put the ball in the back of the net.
“He was at Newcastle and obviously worked his way through the ranks. There’s a lot of people that can learn from him. I’m sure he’ll only keep improving.
West Ham’s inside man Reid talks up striker target ahead of expected summer bid
“Some 18-year-olds that I’ve played with were able to get in the first-team straight away but it’s not always that easy.
“Sometimes you have to go through a different route to make it and Ivan is an example of that.
“As long as he has the same work ethic, I can’t see why he can’t keep progressing.”
West Ham’s hopes of signing Toney in the summer could depend on whether Brentford are promoted.
As things stand the Bees look destined for the play-offs once again.
They sit third – 10 points off the automatic promotion spot. Although they do have two games in hand.
West Ham have a relationship with Brentford when it comes to doing business recently after loaning them Reid and signing Said Benrahma for £25million.
