West Ham academy player Jay Mingi looks set to depart the club when his contract expires in the summer. Mingi is on trial at Charlton Athletic – as confirmed by their official website – as the London club weigh up whether to offer him a deal at The Valley.
The youngster can play in midfield or defence but the Addicks used him as a centre-back. Mingi lined up in defence alongside ex-Hammer Lewis Page, who is coming back from injury.
But it was not the finest afternoon for Mingi despite keeping a clean sheet in a 3-0 win. He gave away a penalty for a challenge on Dan Agyei – which was subsequently missed – and then he was subbed off on 72 minutes.

Jay Mingi at West Ham
Mingi joined West Ham at the age of seven and has come through the ranks with the East London club.
After playing regularly for the U16 side, Mingi was handed a two-year scholarship deal in summer 2017 and then started 16 league matches for the U18 team in 2017/18.
But this season, he has found game time with just three league appearances (two of which were starts) to his name.
With his contract coming to an end this summer, the 18-year-old has clearly been told to find a new club.
Charlton could offer him the chance to earn a professional contract and stay in London. But his future lies away from West Ham.
