West Ham’s worryingly quiet transfer window may finally be set to burst into life as Nils Koppen is linked with five new signings.

From new majority owner Daniel Kretinsky to head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, West Ham have made it expressly clear nothing but promotion back to the Premier League will do next season.

The aim is to win the Championship title – but at the very least secure automatic promotion.

With that in mind, West Ham clearly need to strengthen their squad considerably.

West Ham eye five new signings after Koppen and Nuno talks

The fiercely competitive and gruelling 46-game season in the second tier requires depth and quality.

With a host of players leaving – including star midfielder Mateus Fernandes with Crysencio Summerville set to follow – West Ham need reinforcements.

Many supporters are concerned that the club are yet to bring in any new faces with the start of the season less than four weeks away, when Portsmouth come to the London Stadium in the Carabao Cup.

But West Ham’s window may finally be about to ignite as Nils Koppen is linked with five new signings.

The Hammers need to strengthen in a host of areas, especially with the club looking to offload a number of players who are not in Nuno’s plans such as Jean-Clair Todibo, James Ward-Prowse, Niclas Fullkrug and Edson Alvarez.

It seems Koppen and Nuno may have settled on some targets if reports over the weekend are anything to go by.

Koppen has made it clear he scours lesser known leagues around the world to find gems before the elite.

And according to Venezuelan outlet El Diario, West Ham have an interest in Midtjylland and Ecuador midfielder Denil Castillo.

Five targets linked with Hammers fit Koppen’s recruitment model

The defensive midfielder made 46 appearances across all competitions during the 2025-26 campaign, scoring six goals and laying on six assists.

In an exclusive, TEAMtalk claim the Hammers are battling Coventry – who replaced them in the Premier League, for a season at least – for Norway and Bodo/Glimt midfield ace Patrick Berg.

The 28-year-old enjoyed a superb World Cup and the report claims Berg is now seriously considering another move abroad after spending almost his entire career with his hometown club.

West Ham are comfortably the biggest club in the mix for him and have the lure of London.

Koppen is said to have held talks with Nuno over targets since he was officially appointed to head up West Ham’s recruitment.

Nuno’s input is clear when it comes to another target in the shape of Bastien Meupiyou.

Nuno knows the player well and, according to The Athletic, really admires the Alverca centre-back.

The 20-year-old Frenchman has previously spent time at second-tier rivals Wolves, but never made an appearance for the club, making the move to Portugal last summer.

Meupiyou is said to be keen on the move despite West Ham’s relegation.

Another lesser known name being linked with the Hammers is Stade de Reims midfielder Mory Gbane.

The 25-year-old Ivory Coast international would jump at the chance to join West Ham according to Foot Mercato, who claim Celtic are also interested.

A fifth star being linked with a move to West Ham over the weekend has Koppen’s fingerprints all over it.

Not least because it would involve a raid on the Belgian’s former club Copenhagen.

West Ham sources have told Hammers News that while Nuno will be consulted on all transfers, Koppen will be given a big say in who the club signs.

And Hammers News understands Koppen wants Copenhagen star Gabriel Pereira to follow him to West Ham.

Pereira has emerged as a defensive target and West Ham believe a deal could be cut for around £12-15m, not the £20m being reported elsewhere.
