West Ham want to sign former Sunderland midfielder Yann M’Vila, according to reports in the French media.

L’Equipe – via Get French Football News – claims that West Ham have made an approach to sign M’Vila from Saint-Etienne.

The Hammers are looking for a new defensive midfielder and M’Vila fits the bill. West Ham have reportedly made a ‘concrete’ approach for him ahead of the summer.

M’Vila is renowned as a tough-tackling central midfielder and he has proven his worth throughout his career.

The 28-year-old has represented Rennes, Rubin Kazan, Inter Milan, Sunderland and Saint-Etienne during his time in senior football.

With over 300 career appearances to his name, M’Vila can boast experience. And at the age of 28, he still has some years left in his prime.

The 22-cap ex-France international spent one season in the Premier League, helping Sunderland stay up and becoming a fan favourite at The Stadium of Light.

And while a permanent move to Sunderland fell through, West Ham could now offer him a route to the Premier League.

M’Vila still has three years remaining on his current deal after the end of this season and he is reportedly settled at Saint-Etienne.

But his future is undecided and whether Saint-Etienne will be tempted by West Ham’s offer remains to be seen.
