West Ham want Olivier Giroud with striker likely to leave Chelsea report claims

Calciomercato.it claims that Hammers boss David Moyes is eyeing up a potential swoop for the French World Cup winner in the summer.

The 34-year-old striker is out of contract with Chelsea in the summer.

Considering the fact that he has barely featured at all under Thomas Tuchel, it is highly unlikely that his deal at Stamford Bridge will be extended.

The 6ft 4in centre-forward has scored just four Premier League goals this season. He does possess a fine record of 221 goals in 550 career games, however (Transfermarkt).

West Ham want Olivier Giroud

The experienced target man is on the Hammers’ radar ahead of the summer transfer window according to a report from Calciomercato.it.

Crystal Palace are thought to be chasing the former Arsenal hitman as well.

Signing Giroud as a short-term option on a free transfer wouldn’t be the worst move in the world for West Ham.

On the one condition that we make a marquee striker signing to accompany the Frenchman.

We need to make progress as a football club this summer. And that means that we need to start making signings with a long-term vision.

Giroud obviously wouldn’t fit into that category but sometimes it’s just a case of needs must.

The 34-year-old is proven at the very highest level. And he would certainly be able to do a job for the Hammers for a couple of years.

As long as he doesn’t demand extortionate wages, we fully approve a move to sign Olivier Giroud this summer.
