West Ham United face competition from Tottenham Hotspur for Nikola Maksimovic this summer according to a report from Torino Granata.
Hammers boss David Moyes wants to bring the 29-year-old centre-back to the London Stadium this summer according to Area Napoli.
West Ham have plenty of centre-backs but with Fabian Balbuena facing an uncertain future in east London, the addition of an experienced and solid central defender may well be on Moyes’s to-do list this summer.
Napoli ace Nikola Maksimovic would be a very smart signing for the Hammers. Especially on a free transfer!
It seems as though we may have our work cut-out if we are to sign him in the summer, however.
Torino Granata claims that Spurs boss Jose Mourinho wants to bring the 25-capped Serbia international to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Big blow for West Ham as Tottenham move in for Nikola Maksimovic?
With Spurs allegedly chasing the 6ft 4in Serb, the Hammers could have a real battle on their hands this summer.
Much will depend on which of the two London clubs finish higher in the table this season.
If West Ham manage to qualify for Europe and Tottenham don’t, we should be in the driving seat for Maksimovic’s signature.
Spurs have a huge pull, however, with their magnificent stadium and players like Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.
They have more financial firepower than us as well.
Missing out on Maksimovic to Tottenham would be a bitter pill to swallow for West Ham.
In 17 Serie A outings for Napoli this season, Maksimovic has averaged 1.1 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 2.6 clearances per game. He has also won an average of 2.1 aerial duals per match (Who Scored).
The 29-year-old is a grizzly, seasoned defender and picking him up on a free transfer this summer seems like an absolute no brainer for West Ham. Let’s hope that Tottenham don’t beat us to the punch.
