West Ham United can now accelerate their plans to strengthen the team in the January transfer window as Fabrizio Romano has issued a brand new update.

Nuno Espirito Santo guided his West Ham side to a win over Burnley before the international break, but they are still in the bottom three.

With just 13 goals, the Hammers are struggling for offensive fluidity and they also have the second-worst defence in the top flight.

Graham Potter may no longer be at the club, but some of the issues he inherited at the start of 2025 continue to persist, making it imperative to sign new players this winter.

Fabrizio Romano issues Niclas Fullkrug exit update

Renowned transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano stated on 17 November that Niclas Fullkrug will be parting ways with the Hammers in the January transfer window.

Having joined from Borussia Dortmund for a £27million fee back in the summer of 2024, the Germany international has failed to live up to the billing.

Fullkrug’s future at West Ham ahead of the winter was always in doubt, but he now appears to be extremely close to the exit door at the London Stadium.

Romano claims that the 32-year-old is already in talks with German clubs over a return in the coming weeks.

It’s understood that there are sides outside Germany as well that are willing to take a punt on the former Werder Bremen talisman.

West Ham United can begin work on new transfers

Fullkrug’s contract at the London Stadium runs until 2028 as he signed a four-year deal with the Hammers last year.

It’s evident that he’s not going to stay in the capital for another two-and-a-half years, as an exit appears to be set in stone in January.

This would see West Ham United saving around £90k/week in wages, which would equate to £12million over the course of his contract.

Additionally, while the Irons will not recoup the money they spent on him, this gives them negotiating power and they could drive up his price, given the interest shown in his services.

It also means that they can begin their plans for making new signings in the January transfer window.

Charlie Cresswell is wanted by West Ham and the club could use the proceeds from Fullkrug’s sale to buy the Toulouse defender.

It remains to be seen how much the London Stadium outfit can gain from Fullkrug’s exit and any potential outgoings in January.
