Mads Hermansen appears set for a January exit despite joining West Ham United in the summer transfer window.

Graham Potter wanted Hermansen at the London Stadium and that saw the Hammers pay Leicester a £20million fee.

However, the Danish keeper failed to make the number one spot his own, with Alphonse Areola being the undisputed first-choice for West Ham.

Lazio enter race to sign Mads Hermansen

According to the West Ham Way, Serie A outfit Lazio have now entered the race for the 25-year-old goalkeeper.

Having spent big money on him, the Hammers are looking to recoup as much as they can by cashing in on Hermansen in the coming weeks.

Along with Lazio, other clubs in Italy’s top flight are also willing to take a punt on the Denmark international.

Even though he was signed in the summer, West Ham are open to cutting their losses as he’s not expected to be a first-team regular any time soon.

How much can West Ham United expect for Hermansen?

The fact that only clubs in Italy are keen on Hermansen is not particularly good news for the Irons.

Serie A sides tend to lowball Premier League clubs and often sign players who are out of favour.

They seldom shell out big transfer fees and usually explore loan deals and free agents, given the wages players in the English top flight are on.

Hermansen signed a five-year deal at the London Stadium and will be earning decent money as he moved to London with the promise of being the first-choice goalkeeper.

According to Capology, he is on £45k/week wages at the East London club and if Lazio are to pay him that, he would be one of their top earners.

It also remains to be seen if Hermansen is willing to take a pay cut in order to play regularly, as it is a World Cup year and his country are still to secure qualification.

Nuno has made it clear that he does not fancy the Dane as his first choice and it’s now on the hierarchy to get as much as possible from his departure.
