West Ham trying to bring ‘mesmerising talent’ once of Chelsea back to the Premier League in January transfer window

The upcoming January transfer window will be a vitally important one for West Ham United.

West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui needs to strengthen his squad significantly this winter, if we are to compete on all fronts.

Lopetegui is said to have held transfer talks with David Sullivan already ahead of the January transfer window.

The Spaniard’s job is said to be safe for now, so he will undoubtedly be planning for the window ahead.

Whilst the Hammers have struggled badly this season, there have been slight improvements in recent weeks.

Regardless of the performances, eight points from games against Wolves, Bournemouth, Brighton and Southampton is a very solid return.

Now the challenge will be to maintain that form consistently for the remainder of the season.

In order to do that, numerous signings are needed in January, including a new striker, a centre-back and a powerful central midfielder.

However, our latest target doesn’t play in any of those positions…

Lopetegui needs to bolster his ranks in pretty much every single department this winter.

However, one area where we are fairly well stocked is the right wing department.

And with that in mind, a report sharing some Hammers transfer news on Saturday really did surprise me.

H24 Info claim that the Hammers are keen to sign Hakim Ziyech from Galatasaray in the January transfer window.

West Ham were heavily linked with a move to sign the Morocco international before he left Stamford Bridge to join Galatasaray in the summer of 2023.

The 31-year-old has endured a really tough season with Gala, having bagged just one assist and no goals in 11 games.

And just before Christmas, Ziyech embarked on an incredible rant, vowing to leave Galatasaray and ripping into the club’s coach Okan Buruk (Daily Mail).

So it’s clear to see that he will be up for sale this winter – his future with the Turkish club is untenable.

But should the Hammers be trying to bring the former Chelsea man back to London?

I personally don’t think so – the last thing we need is another ageing mercenary, especially in a position where we have the most strength in depth right now.

The Guardian once described Ziyech as a ‘mesmerising talent’, and they’re spot on – he was an elite player during his time with Ajax.

However, he never really fulfilled his potential with Chelsea, and his form has dipped even more so with Galatasaray.

Hakim Ziyech will be 32 in March, and as good as he has been throughout his career, I really feel like West Ham should avoid a move to sign him in the January transfer window.

Not only has he regressed physically over the past 12-18 months, but his attitude is clearly questionable as well.
