West Ham are expected to move for Jonjo Shelvey again this summer but Newcastle United are now ready to sell him, according to The Northern Echo.

Rafa Benitez repeatedly blocked West Ham’s attempts to sign Shelvey in the January transfer window but he is now prepared to get rid.

Shelvey has fallen down the pecking order at Newcastle this season due to injuries and the form of other central midfielders.

But Manuel Pellegrini is a big fan of the Newcastle midfielder and is ready to reignite his interest in him when the summer transfer window opens.

With Sean Longstaff and Isaac Hayden impressing this season, Shelvey struggled to make the match day squad when he returned from injury.

This report claims that Benitez has not been impressed with the 27-year-old’s work ethic and he is ready to let him go this summer.

Shelvey has played over 100 games for Newcastle since his January 2016 switch from Swansea City. But the ex-Charlton and Liverpool man has only started eight games this season – the last of which was in early November.

Nevertheless, Pellegrini wants Shelvey to partner Declan Rice in midfield with Benitez now ready to sanction this move.

Would Jonjo Shelvey fit in at West Ham?

East London boy Shelvey spent some time in the West Ham academy as a schoolboy and grew up as a Hammers fan.

A return to his hometown would surely tempt Shelvey. But would his style of play work for West Ham?

In terms of quality, there is no doubting that the six-cap England international can hit a stunning range of passes.

On his day, Shelvey can be a match-winner with his ability to control the midfield. But with injury and attitude concerns, would this be too much of a risk for West Ham?
