West Ham United are on the verge of seeing Martin Adeline slip through their fingers with reports saying that Hamburg are set to seal a deal with the ESTAC Troyes midfielder.
And for the first time, the size of the price tag has been revealed.
Martin Adeline was first mentioned as a Mateus Fernandes replacement at the start of June. Five weeks have passed and at West Ham United – despite claims from ExWhuEmployee saying that the pursuit was expected to step up once Fernandes’ sale was complete – there has been very little progress.

The same cannot be said, though, of Hamburg.
Hamburg overtake West Ham United in Martin Adeline pursuit
The Bundesliga outfit have strode into pole position over the last 48 hours or so. Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, while revealing that Adeline is likely to change hands for as little as £5 million, reveals that Hamburg have now reached an agreement on personal terms with the player’s camp.

“Hamburger SV have reached a full verbal agreement with Martin Adeline,” Plettenberg says, while L’Equipe report that the 22-year-old is now ‘expected’ to join the former European champions.
“A long-term contract has been agreed.
“However, there are still details to be resolved with Troyes. There is currently no green light for the medical. The transfer fee is expected to be below 6 million euros. The deal is nevertheless close, per L’Equipe.

A Chelsea source thinks the return is possible…
“Internally, HSV view Adeline as the No. 8 they have been missing in their squad.”
West Ham, of course, have a giant number eight shaped void themselves.
But as concerns start to rise about the lack of new signings, the sight of a leading target changing hands for as little as £5 million will see further questions asked.
