West Ham United are apparently closing in on a deal to sign a striker before deadline day…finally.

Graham Potter has a lot of urgent tasks on his hands at West Ham, but his main priority will surely be to bring a proven striker to the London Stadium before deadline day

The Hammers head coach only has one fit centre-forward at his disposal in the form of Danny Ings, although Jarrod Bowen can play there if need be.

All the news recently has centred around the Hammers’ interest in Brighton hitman Evan Ferguson, and it has been claimed that we’re close to securing a deal for the 20-year-old.

However, there are other options on the table for the East London outfit as well.

The January transfer window has been a quiet one for West Ham so far, but that doesn’t mean that Potter and recruitment guru Kyle Macaulay are not working hard on deals behind the scenes.

And the Hammers have seemingly struck one deal in particular.

West Ham to complete striker deal before deadline day

The addition of a new striker before deadline day will be crucial for the Hammers.

And it seems as though we are closing in on finally bring a proven centre-forward to the club.

The man in question has been heavily linked with West Ham before.

Record claim that Arthur Cabral will leave Benfica to join the Hammers ‘within the coming hours’.

The deal for the 26-year-old striker will initially be worth around £15 million, with a further £1.5 million in potential add-ons included in the package.

Hammers News spoke exclusively to 4-4-2.CH writer and Swiss football expert Andre Oechsner about Cabral back in 2021 when we were linked with signing him.

We were told he’d be perfectly suited to playing Premier League football, and I believe he’d be ideal for us, especially for just £13 million.

Arthur Cabral a decent stop-gap signing for West Ham

Cabral has the ability needed to be a hit with the Hammers.

That said, I would like to see us sign a younger striker with more physicality and pace in the summer.

For the here and now though, Cabral would be a very decent option for us.

The 26-year-old striker has bagged an impressive 131 career goals in 317 games during his time with Palmeiras, Ceara Sporting Club, FC Basel, Fiorentina and Benfica (Transfermarkt).

Cabral is vastly experienced and he clearly knows where the back of the net is.

I actually think that signing the former Basel and Fiorentina striker would improve us overall as a team.

If West Ham manage to sign Arthur Cabral for just £15 million before deadline day, I think it would be a smart move from the club.
