West Ham striker target Jonathan David has spoken out on his future and says everyone wants to play in the Premier League.
It may sound like an oxymoron but it could actually prove to be a good thing that West Ham target David did not have the greatest World Cup with Canada.
West Ham have been heavily linked with the Lille striker over the last couple of transfer windows.
Various reports – including one from French outlet BUT! in the summer – claimed the Hammers want David.
It is easy to see why Moyes has an interest in the forward. The New York born 22-year-old has a brilliant goalscoring record for club and country with 22 goals in 38 games already for Canada and 78 in 194 for Gent and Lille.
Alleged West Ham target David already has nine goals and three assists in 15 games for Lille this season too.
There was a lot of hype around David going into Qatar but while he played well in patches – like his team – he did not make the big breakthrough many thought he might on the world stage.
Had he done that then West Ham may have had to take their place in a queue of clubs after his services.
Instead that door, should Moyes wish to open it, seems very much open.
The Hammers and a number of other clubs have been linked with a move for David in the fast approaching January window.
Now West Ham striker target David has spoken out on his future and says everyone wants to play in the Premier League.
“I am aware of nothing (new about my future),” David said, as reported by Sky Sports.
“When I am at the World Cup I am just focused on trying to enjoy the World Cup and enjoying the moment.
“What happens after I do not know, we will have to see.
“The Premier League is the best league in the world, and I think every player would want to play there some day.”
West Ham are the joint second lowest scorers in the Premier League with just 12 goals in 15 games so far this season.
Moyes’ approach and system has thus far failed to get the best out of £35m summer striker signing Gianluca Scamacca.
And with out of sorts Michail Antonio turning 33 in March, West Ham – who many feel needed to sign two forwards in the summer – should be testing the water for players like David.
