When asked of a player we would like to see leave West Ham, there can only be one player on the tip of everyone’s tongues, Modibo Maiga. Rumours have emerged over the past week that this player could be close to a move back to his former club, Sochaux.
Last season, Maiga was a player that the fan’s welcomed to be brought on, scoring a handful of goals, when making an appearance. Most people will remember his goal against Southampton. This season however he has been left with the task of leading the line in the absence of West Ham’s main man Andy Carroll. The Mali international has struggled to find the net to say the least, as well as the rest of the West Ham team.
It must be well known by now that West Ham are preparing for the Fair Play rules already, a year early, which is a reason for a poor summer window. As a result of this the only way the Hammers will sign anyone is through a sale of a player or two. It is thought that West Ham are willing to let Maiga go for around £1 million, and are prepared to go even lower just to get him off the wage bill. Makes us sound desperate!
Sochaux are keen to have him back at this knock-down price, as he is considered a local hero back in his footballing home of France. I can’t see why either. West Ham are hoping for competition from St Etienne, so that a bidding war could emerge.
