West Ham sources have made their plans clear in a Sky Sports report after second Amadou Onana bid is rejected by Lille.

Last night Hammers News reported claims from France that Lille had performed a U-turn in their stance over selling giant Belgian midfielder Onana.

David Moyes has identified central midfield reinforcements as a top priority before the transfer window closes.

With Mark Noble and Alex Kral having both departed and Tomas Soucek’s West Ham future in doubt, Moyes is said to want two new central midfielders.

The Hammers signed Flynn Downes last week and The Daily Mail reported that West Ham saw Lille reject an offer of £20m for Onana.

Last night L’Equipe claimed the French club could now be open to selling the 20-year-old for £35m.

And sure enough West Ham have gone back with another offer today – £10m below that asking price.

West Ham sources have made their plans clear in a Sky Sports report after the second Onana bid was rejected by Lille.

“West Ham have had a second bid for the Lille midfielder Amadou Onana rejected,” Sky Sports News reported at lunchtime.

“The offer is believed to be around 30 million Euros (£25m).

“While West Ham haven’t closed the door on pursuing the player, it is thought they are looking at other options.”

Sky has clearly spoken to sources at West Ham for that update.

And that very much seems like a thinly-veiled threat from the Hammers to Lille that they will not hang around much longer for Onana.

It is good to see West Ham trying to be prudent with their transfer business.

But when it has been made clear that Lille will listen to offers of £35m – it does beg the question why West Ham continue to make low ball offers if they really want to sign the player for Moyes.

Imagine if a club did that to us for Declan Rice? They would be laughed out of the building.

If West Ham go back in with another bid it needs to be much closer to the asking price.

Should the Hammers sign Onana, it would seem to almost certainly spell the end for Soucek.

The big Czech fan favourite has reportedly had a falling out with Moyes over a new contract.
