Michail Antonio’s West Ham United career has been something of a roller coaster.
Supporters thought they may have seen the last of Antonio last summer.
Fans were bewildered by the attacker’s fall from grace at West Ham as he was linked with a move to Crystal Palace.
The former non-league player’s meteoric rise up the league’s saw him land a big money move to East London.
A raw but blistering quick and powerful attacker Antonio was a rough diamond.
Antonio’s roller coaster Hammers career
But he soon became a fans’ favourite thanks to his never-say-die attitude and hard graft on the pitch.
Indeed he even scooped the club’s prestigious Hammer of the Year award in their first season at the London Stadium.
That same month Antonio was rewarded with a bumper new contract on a reported £70,000 per week (Sky Sports).
That co-incided with the start of a nightmare 18 months with injuries, a lack of form when fit and what many fans believed to be a lack of his trademark hunger, desire and workrate.
Antonio told whufc.com his struggles were down to the mental and physical scars of long-term injuries.
And he looked to be getting back to his best for the Hammers in recent months.
Antonio a spent force?
His performances have dipped yet again, though, and this time fans really believe it is the end.
A terrible performance at Cardiff saw Antonio become the butt of an internet meme which shows his wayward shot hitting the international space station.
He started against Huddersfield and was poor again. He was hauled off at half-time and Javier Hernandez and Samir Nasri were crucial to West Ham’s dramatic comeback win.
Antonio is starting to look like a spent force at West Ham.
Dan is the man to replace Antonio
The club should look to offload him this summer and use the money to go big for Swansea’s Dan James as a replacement.
The jet-heeled 21-year-old has really caught the eye for Swansea this season.
His pace has seen clips of the midfielder in action go viral.
There are shades of Michael Owen about James and West Ham could tempt Swansea with a sizeable bid for the Wales international.
Manuel Pellegrini has started building a team of young and hungry players and James would fit in perfectly alongside the likes of Declan Rice, Issa Diop and co.
