West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini finally switched to a 4-4-2 on Saturday, playing Michail Antonio alongside Sebastien Haller in attack.
And the move worked a treat.
The worry for Hammers fans, however, is that the club’s board might now use Antonio’s recent positional switch as a reason not to strengthen the centre-forward department.
If they want to show real ambition, however, they must not allow this to happen. They have to sign another striker in January to help supplement Haller and Antonio.
And a great option for them would be Porto hitman Moussa Marega.
West Ham were actually linked with the 18-capped Mali international in the summer, with French publication Foot Mercato claiming that the east London outfit were prepared to meet his €30 million (£25.5 million) release clause.
Obviously that move failed to materialise, however.
The Hammers should go back in for the 28-year-old in January though. The powerful striker has been in fine form for Porto over the past few seasons. He has racked up 63 goals in 137 games over the past three seasons for the Portuguese outfit.
The Mali ace can play as an out and out striker or sat just behind the main forward. And he would undoubtedly get the best out of Haller.
His arrival at the London Stadium would also enable Manuel Pellegrini to rotate his forward line without flogging Haller and Antonio to death.
Marega is perfectly built for the robust nature of the Premier League. The 28-year-old is strong in possession and relishes the physical battle.
And if West Ham could pick him up for just £25.5 million, it would be an absolute no brainer for them.
