West Ham fans are incredibly excited heading into the new season.
High profile arrivals Sebastien Haller and Pablo Fornals are expected to make a huge impact at the London Stadium.
There is still room for further improvement, however, especially if Manuel Pellegrini is to guide his side to a top six finish.
It could actually be argued that the east London outfit still need to strengthen in three key areas – central defence, central midfield and attack.
West Ham have been linked with plenty of centre-backs and centre-forwards. There is a danger, however, that they are overlooking the need to bolster their ranks in the middle of the park.
Pedro Obiang has left, Mark Noble is not getting any younger, and Carlos Sanchez is quite clearly not good enough.
And with this in mind, the Hammers should go for Borussia Monchengladbach ace Matthias Ginter.
Versatility
The 25-year-old ace can operate as either a centre-back or a deep-lying midfielder. And this would be crucial for West Ham during what will be a long and physically punishing campaign.
Experience in playing at the highest level
Ginter has already made 249 club appearances for three clubs in the Bundesliga. And he’s earned 26 international caps for Germany.
This would help him slot easily into the Hammers side.
Imposing physique
Standing at 6ft 2in, the Germany international possesses the kind of physique needed to succeed in England.
He loves a physical battle, is strong in the air and tenacious in the tackle. And he would really help tighten up West Ham as a defensive unit.
Ginter really would be a great signing for the Hammers. Albeit a rather ambitious one.
And Pellegrini must do all that he can to bring him to east London this summer.
