West Ham have shared a major transfer update after signing Max Kilman and it’s what fans have been waiting for.

West Ham will announce the £40m signing of Wolves captain Max Kilman this morning.

The 27-year-old ball-carrying centre-back comes in to shore up a woeful backline which shipped a West Ham club record 74 Premier League goals last season.

Kilman was Julen Lopetegui’s top target. The move proves Hammers News’ exclusive from last month which revealed majority owner David Sullivan was willing to push the boat out to get the deal done for his new head coach.

The defender is West Ham’s third signing of what technical director Tim Steidten states will be a very busy summer transfer window.

Where to next for Hammers after Kilman?

The Hammers are looking to strengthen in almost all areas.

With an attacker, back-up goalkeeper and centre-back signed, West Ham want to add another central defender, at least one versatile full-back, a central midfielder, an attacking left-sided player and a striker.

In midweek the top spokesman inside West Ham exclusively told Hammers News that claims Lopetegui could walk out over a lack of progress on transfers were ‘not true’.

The key senior source then revealed Sullivan was meeting the Spaniard for dinner and that a £40m signing would be made within 72 hours.

Now the same top club spokesman has delivered some fresh news.

West Ham transfer update is what fans have been waiting for

West Ham have shared a major transfer update after Kilman and it’s what fans have been waiting for.

Hammers News reached out to the club to ask about their feelings over landing Kilman and what would be next in the window.

The answer? A striker.

The source said sales of non-essential players will be needed to free up space and funds at some point in the window.

But making a long-awaited striker signing is now West Ham’s full focus.

“We really like him (Kilman),” the West Ham spokesman told Hammers News.

“We need to move a few out to release slots.

“But we will sign a new centre forward next.”

New striker incoming next and it’s about time

When West Ham failed to replace Gianluca Scamacca last summer, supporters were angry.

Especially as they had waited for over 18 months to see Sebastien Haller replaced.

The Hammers have been linked with a host of striker targets from Youssef En-Nesyri to Jonathan David, Samu Omorodion and Armando Broja.

Last summer David Moyes repeatedly stated he felt there was a dearth of striker talent available worldwide.

That has left West Ham with ageing duo Michail Antonio and Danny Ings as their only bonafide forwards following the departure of Divin Mubama.

The experiment to play Jarrod Bowen up top had mixed results.

And now he has earned a place in the England squad based on playing off his preferred position on the right, it is expected that experiment will be ended by Lopetegui – unless needed by necessity.
